YALE FRESHMEN DEFEATED

In Baseball by Harvard 1910, 3 to 2.--1910 Played Errorless Game.

On Saturday the Freshman baseball team won its first game from the Yale freshmen at New Haven by the close score of 3 to 2. The game was well played throughout, the fielding of the Freshmen being errorless, but Yale made two costly errors. Hicks' pitching was very strong, until the ninth inning, when three bases on balls, two hits and a dead ball, gave Yale two runs.

Although the Freshmen came near scoring in the first and second innings, they were prevented by good fielding. In the eighth inning, Aronson, the first man up, got to first on Logan's error, took second on Palmer's sacrifice, and scored on Hall's second hit, a hard drive to right centre. In the ninth Delano went to first on a dead ball, and was advanced to third on singles by Foster and Brown. With the bases full, Hicks hit a slow roller towards pitcher, which forced Delano at the plate. Pond, the last man on the list, lined out a hard drive over second, scoring Foster and Brown. With Hicks on third and Pond on second, Aronson hit a hard ball to shortstop, who threw Hicks out at the plate.

Yale's two runs came in an exciting finish in the last of the ninth. Philbin was hit, but caught trying to steal. Brigham, batting for Donegan was passed, and Ijams struck out. Merritt and Wheaton singled, scoring Brigham. Fels got his base on balls, filling the bases, and Hicks forced in a run on the third base on balls of the inning. Murphy then forced Logan out at second.
