The Freshman baseball candidates have been practicing outdoors daily during the past week. As during the previous week, the fielding of the squad has shown a decided improvement, and the throwing, with few exceptions, has been of a good quality. The batting of the squad, as a whole, has been far from satisfactory, although some individuals have shown good form. In consequence of their batting ability it is probable that some of the infield candidates will be transferred to the outfield, if they cannot make places in the infield.
Scrub games have been played almost every day during the past week, and as a whole the showing has been fairly encouraging, as many players have shown an intimate knowledge of the game. Foster and Marshall have been alternating at third base, Sweeney has replaced Aronson at shortstop, and Sheehan has replaced Gardner at second base. The outfield has undergone a complete change, Wheelwright, Linehan, and Newton having replaced Galattic, Atkins and Turner, The team is as follows: Lanigan and Hicks, p.; Jordan, c.; Hall, 1b.; Sheehan, 2b.; Sweeney, s.s.; Marshall and Foster, 3b.; Wheelwright, l.f.; Newton, c.f.; Linehan, r.f.
