The work of all crews has been hindered this week by poor weather conditions. None of the eights were on the water from Saturday until Wednesday and consequently when they took to the water they showed the lack of practice. The University crew seems lifeless, and during the last few days has not been rowing together well, rushing the slide and slow at the catch. Yesterday the University and second crews had a short spurt, and the second crew, rowing at a higher stroke than the first, pushed them hard. The second crew has been rowing rather irregularly in the orders, and Burr, who has sat at 5, will not be able to row again this year, as he has left for England on account of family illness. Hanfstaengl has been rowing in his place. Fish has not rowed at all this week, and Morgan was out for a day, when Farley stroked the University crew. Yesterday Swaim rowed at 7 in place of Severance, who reported late.
The University squad will row twice daily, from Thursday, April 18, through the following Saturday and the training table will be started as soon as they begin work in the recess.
Review of Freshman Rowing.
The work of the Freshman crew has also been retarded, and still shows plenty of room for improvement. The boat seems to lean to starboard and does not go along as smoothly as might be wished.
During the recess two eights and one four-oar will remain in Cambridge through Wednesday, April 17, and will row twice daily.
