A meeting of the candidates for the University lacrosse team was held yesterday evening in the Assembly Room of the Union. Captain Wendell and Coach Penhallow gave short talks about the game and the best methods of preparation for it. A. H. Elder '07, manager of the team, gave the proposed schedule for the southern trip, and the plans for the interclass games, which will be held this year early in April instead of in June, as has been the custom heretofore.
J. M. Groves '05 outlined the plan which has been proposed of taking a Harvard team to England for a few weeks' tour. The lacrosse season in England is in the fall and winter, and therefore it will be impossible to take an undergraduate team; but it is planned to make up a team composed of men, who have graduated in the last few years, and the Senior members of this year's team. The team will leave New York or Boston, early in November and will stay for about a month in England, playing Oxford and Cambridge and some of the northern universities. The expenses will be borne partly by the members of the team and partly by graduates.
The following candidates handed in their names last night: F. L. Arey '09, E. S. Barber '08, M. C. Clapp '07, D. L. Cobb '09, A. H. Cochrane '09, A. C. Comey '07, G. M. Dwelley '08, H. R. Eisner '09, J. C. Fisher '09, P. B. Francis '08, C. L. Furber '08, P. Gillette '09, G. A. McKay '08, C. E. Marsters '07, P. L. Mueller '08, H. E. Porter '09, L. Rome '08, A. W. Sampson '09, M. K. Stevens '09, and W. G. Thomas '07. Candidates will report for the present to Captain Wendell at 4.30 o'clock behind the Gymnasium.
