Princeton won the intercollegiate swimming championship by defeating the University team at Princeton on Saturday night by the score of 31 to 21. In spite of the fact that Harvard won only one event, the 220-yard swim, the meet was well contested and unusually excellent, three intercollegiate records being broken.
J. W. Chambers of Princeton was unquestionably the best performer. He made new records in both the 50-yard and 100-yard swims, doing the former in 27 1-5s., and the latter in 1m. 3s. He also helped to break the intercollegiate record for the 800-foot relay race, in which after swimming behind Withington most of the distance, he made a splendid spurt in the last lap, and finished in 2m. 46 2-5s.
E. Farley '07 won the only first place for Harvard in the 220-yard swim, in which L. Howe '07 was second. P. Withington '09 secured second place in both the 50-yard and 100-yard races.
The water polo game was won by Princeton by the score of 5 to 1.
