The University chess team will leave this evening at 9 o'clock for New York, where it will take part in the sixteenth annual intercollegiate chess tournament. The team is composed of K. S. Johnson 1G., M. V. Hitt '09, W. W. Parshley '09, E. R. Browne '09, and C. T. Brodrick '08, substitute.
The tournament will be held in the rooms of the West Side Republican Club, Broadway and 83d street. Play will begin tomorrow at 1 o'clock, and will continue on Monday and Tuesday in the afternoon and evening. The program of play will be as follows: Saturday, Harvard vs. Princeton, and Yale vs. Columbia; Monday, Harvard vs. Yale, and Princeton vs. Columbia; Tuesday, Harvard vs. Columbia, and Yale vs. Princeton.
From the contestants in this tournament a team will be picked which will play a picked team from Oxford and Cambridge some time in March for the trophy presented by I. L. Rice. The match for this international trophy last year resulted in a draw.
