Professor A. B. Hart '80 has been granted leave of absence from the University by the Corporation until February 1, to enable him to make a study of some of the conditions of the South. He will go first to Galveston and Houston, Texas, and make first-hand investigations into the governments by commission there; and will then work eastward to Louisiana and though the strip of rural country running through southern Mississippi, Alabama, and eastern North Carolina, and South Caroline. His purpose is to see the rural South away from the railroads and other means of communication with the outside world.
