FIRST BUMPING RACES TODAY

Crews Will Start from Boylston Street Bridge at 3.15 and 4.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

This afternoon the first of the interdormitory bumping races will be rowed up-stream over a one and three-eighths mile course, starting from the Boylston street bridge, and finishing at the upper end of the long stretch beyond the second bend. A stake boat will be placed at this point and all the crews will finish at the same place. The races will be rowed off in two divisions, starting at 3.15 and 4 o'clock respectively. The divisions of the crews and the order in which they will start follow:

First Division--1, Claverly; 2, Randolph-Ridgely; 3, Westmorly; 4, Dunster-Dana-Drayton-Russell; 5, Mount Auburn St.; 6, Hollis-Holworthy-Stoughton I; 7, Beck-Hampden.

Second Division--1, Thayer; 2, Matthews; 3, Weld; 4, Perkins; 5, College House; 6, Gray's; 7, Hollis-Holworthy-Stoughton II.

For tomorrow's racing, the order of the crews in the divisions will change; the crews securing a bump advancing in position, while the crews against which a bump is scored will be put back a place.

Rules and Regulations.

The crews will line up for the start 90 feet apart from bow to stern, and the starting positions will be indicated by buoys, placed in the river at the proper intervals. Number one in each division will be farthest away from the bridge. A series of three shots will be fired for a starting signal. Between the first and second shots there will be two minutes, and between the second and third one minute. The third shot will be the signal for the start. Referees will be stationed along the shore, and bumps will be signalled, either through a megaphone or by pistol-shot. As soon as the signal is given, the bumping crew and the crew bumped will drop out.

It is important that the coxswains study the chart of the river and observe the rules. All bumps must be made on the outside. Each crew must keep to the inside course in rounding a curve to give the crew behind a chance to bump. A crew that disregards this rule will be considered bumped.

All men must report at the boathouses, dressed to row, at 3 o'clock. The first division will be started promptly at 3.15, and any crew not at its buoy by that time will be considered out of the race.

The Officials.

The following men will act as officials, and must report at the boat-house at 3 o'clock, bringing pistols with them, if possible: Coach Wray, Captain Richardson, J. Adams '10, E. Bacon '10, G. G. Bacon '08, G. G. Ball '08, F. M. Blagden '09, A. G. Cable '09, H. A. Coit '10, R. G. Crandall '09, E. C. Cutler '09, J. W. Cutler '09, S. A. Fahnestock '08, R. M. Faulkner '09, E. F. Hanfstaengl '09, H. graduates, will be welcome to the dinner, though invitations will not be sent to every individual. The secretaries of the graduate classes will be asked to interest themselves and to let the members of their various classes know about the dinner. Special invitations are being sent to every Harvard Club in the country to send a delegate, so as to obtain a representative gathering of Harvard men. Two hundred tickets will be provisionally reserved for undergraduates, until it is known how many graduates wish to attend
