The main work of the University football squad's practice yesterday consisted in two fifteen-minute scrimmages; one between the first and third elevens, and the other between the first team's substitutes and a fourth eleven. It was not until after the first touchdown had been scored that the University team was able to keep the ball in the third's territory.

Gilbert received the ball on the kick-off and ran it back 10 yards to the 20-yard line. Wendell gained eight yards, but 10 yards were lost on a penalty. Lockwood fumbled, but recovered the ball on the 3-yard line. He then punted and the first eleven recovered the ball upon its 15-yard line. Wendell then gained three yards through left tackle, but in the next play the first lost eight yards on a poor pass. Lockwood's punt was blocked by Nourse, who fell on it behind the line for a touchdown. No attempt for a goal was made.

Captain Parker, though not playing, kicked off for the third to Gregory, who put the ball on the 10-yard line. Gregory then lost 10 yards on an end run, and in the next play, punted to Macdonald. Gilbert fumbled to White. Parke failed to gain and Gregory again punted to Macdonald who ran the ball back five yards to the third's 21-yard line. Wendell gained one yard through right tackle. A forward pass was then tried, but was fumbled, and Jones secured the ball for the third. Parke lost five yards and Gregory punted to Newhall who ran back 10 yards to the third's 30-yard line. Lockwood then ran around left end for a 22-yard gain, downing the ball on the 8-yard line. Wendell fumbled but recovered and Gilbert fumbled to the third on their 8-yard line. Gregory punted to Inches, who ran the ball to the 15-yard line. From there, the first rushed the ball over the line by means of straight line plays. Wendell gained three yards through right tackle and then followed with eight more through left. Lockwood lost two yards and Wendell gained six, making a touchdown. The men were then dismissed.

The line-up was as follows: Kennard, l.e.  r.e., Blanchard Hoar, l.t.  r.t., Jones Burr, l.g.  r.g., Hadden Barney, c.  c., Nourse Alley, r.g.  l.g., Forchheimer Inches, r.t.  l.t., H. C. In the other scrimmage the second team had little difficulty in gaining against the fourth. The whole team and especially the backs, played together exceptionally well considering that yesterday's was only the second scrimmage of the year.
