The University hockey team defeated the Brae Burn Hockey Club at Brae Burn, West Newton, Saturday afternoon by a score of 3 to 0. The ice was unfavorable for fast playing, as there were so many holes and so much water collected along the sides and ends of the rink that the play had to be frequently stopped. This constant interruption made the game appear slow and listless.
It appeared at first that the game would be a one-sided match. Newhall scored cleverly in less than a minute. Pell carried the puck from near his own goal through the entire Brae Burn team, scoring the second goal. During the rest of the period the play was mostly in Brae Burn's territory, but the shooting of the University forwards was very inaccurate.
In the second half several substitutes were put in the line-up and both teams were evenly matched. There were several scrimmages in front of the Harvard goal, but the defense played effectively and prevented any scoring. Toward the end of the game Paine, aided by good team play, made the only score of the last half.
The summary follows: Score--Harvard, 3; Brae Burn, 0. Goals--Newhall, Pell, Paine. Referee--A. Winsor '02. Timekeeper--Coach Donovan. Time--20 and 15-minute halves.
