UNIVERSITY TEAM WON

Defeated Second Baseball Team by Score of 3 to 0 in Five-Inning Game.

Yesterday afternoon the University baseball nine won a five-inning practice game with the second team by a score of 3 to 0. The play was frequently interrupted by coaching, and replacing men on bases, which, however, did not affect the outcome of the game. Throughout the second team was outclassed, and was weak at bat and erratic in the field. The University team made nine hits, all scattered singles, with the exception of a three-base hit by Pounds.

Brennan, who pitched for the University team, held the second down to two hits, but struck out only one man. Harvey played third base, as Leonard was given a day's rest, and Kemble was put in centre field. With the regular line-up the hitting would undoubtedly have been harder.

Both teams fielded loosely, but the second team's errors were more costly. Stephenson dropped a thrown ball on first, giving Waters his base, but the misplay, although usually fatal, did not cost a run.

The University team scored all its runs in the second and fourth innings. Dexter singled in the second, went to third on an error by Snyder, and scored on Pounds' fly to the outfield. In the fourth Pounds opened with a three-base hit, and after Kemble had field out to Snyder, scored on an error by Pritchett, which gave Currier his base. The latter stole second and scored on a single by Simons.

The second team did not advance a man beyond second base.
