1908 Second Won Crew Race

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In the second class crew race yesterday afternoon up stream over the 1 and 7-8 mile course the second Sophomore eight won by a length and a half from the second Freshmen in 9 minutes and 56 seconds. The Juniors were third and the Seniors fourth.

The whole race was interesting, especially the first half-mile, when all the crews remained fairly even. At the start, the Sophomores gained a slight advantage, leading the other boats by half a length. At the Harvard bridge they had increased this lead to two lengths of open water. The Freshmen, Juniors and Seniors followed in order. From this point the race developed into a struggle between the Sophomores and the Freshmen. Henry rowed 32 strokes to the minute, and Kemp, who had been going at an easier pace, raised his stroke also. His crew, however, was only able to decrease the Sophomore's lead to a length and a half.

Cups will be presented to the members of the winning Sophomore crew.

The orders were as follows:

Second Seniors--Stroke, Wright; 7, Pierpont; 6, Lincoln; 5, Cook; 4, Appel; 3, Holmes; 2, Strauss; bow, Warren; cox., deMilhau.

Second Juniors--Stroke, Bailey; 7, Lane; 6, Whitney; 5, Dearborn; 4, Evans; 3, Woodbury; 2, Lanahan; bow, Durant; cox., Linaberry.
