CREW WORK DURING WEEK

Owing to the cold and generally unfavorable weather conditions the work of all the crews on the river has been somewhat limited during the past week. Although the University boat has been out every day, except Monday, when there was a snow-storm, it has generally been only for short distances. Wednesday, however, the crew went down the basin, as far as Harvard bridge. If the weather is decidedly warmer today the University eight will be sent on a four-mile row, otherwise there will be no practice.

Tuesday a change was made in the boat. Newhall was moved to 7 from 2, and Fish, who rowed 7 last year in the Freshman crew, was tried at 2. Yesterday the men were given a short, brisk row to the Stillman Infirmary and back. It was extremely cold and a raw wind was blowing, but the work as a whole was satisfactory. The men got their arms away from their bodies quickly, made a hard catch, and carried the stroke through with life.

The order of the University boat has not been changed since Tuesday. The second crew was also on the river, and the two boats had a short brush in which the first drew away from the second.

Work and Orders of Upperclass Crews.

The class crews have been on the river two weeks and a half, and are showing fair improvement. The two Senior crews did not go out yesterday, but the first Junior crew rowed from the Newell boat-house. Simmons, who was rowing bow on the University four-oar last week, was back at 7 in the Junior boat, and Forte, who did not row last week, was in at 2. Every day this week, except Monday, when the weather was unfavorable, and Thursday, when only the first crew went out, the two Sophomore crews have been rowing from the Weld boathouse.

Freshman Crews and Orders.

The work of the Freshman crews during the week has continued on the same lines as previously. The first boat, in which there were no changes yesterday. was sent out for a short row up-stream. Individual work is improving, but on the whole the men still show a tendency to hang at the catch, and the boat rolls badly.
