JUNIORS WON TRACK GAMES

With 45 1-2 Points Over Seniors' 32 Points.--Fast Time in Mile.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In the annual interclass track games held in the Stadium yesterday afternoon the Juniors won the class championship with a total of 45 1-2 points. The Seniors secured 32 points, the Sophomores 28 1-2, and the Freshmen, 11 points.

Although the track was in good condition, a strong breeze made it necessary to start the sprints at the curved end of the Stadium. Consequently as the sprinters could not check themselves before reaching the end of the straightaway, both the 220-yard hurdles and 220-yard dash were shortened to 200 yards.

Most of the events were run off in very good time, but the one-mile and two-mile runs were unusually fast. W. Minot '07 won the former in 4 minutes, 28 4-5 seconds, thus coming within 5 1-5 seconds of the intercollegiate championship record for the mile run, which is 4 minutes, 23 3-5 seconds, held by G. W. Orton of the University of Pennsylvania. The first quarter was run in 1 minute, 1 4-5 seconds.

In the two-mile run M. H. Stone '07 finished with a long lead in 9 minutes, 58 3-5 seconds. The quarter mile was closely contested, but Dives finished in good style a few feet ahead of O'Brien.

In the field events some of the distances obtained were slightly greater than those of last year's games. B. T. Stephenson '08 in the 16-pound shot put was able to increase last year's distance by 5 1-2 inches, while Kersburg gained 8 feet 9 1-2 inches over last year with the 16-pound hammer. In all the events a decided improvement was shown over the handicap games held before the holidays.

A number of graduates ran in the meet, and those finishing in first or second places will receive cups. The first two undergraduates to finish in each event will also receive prizes, and all undergraduates scoring will be awarded their class numerals. In scoring the graduates were disregarded.
