LL.D.from St. Andrews for Dean Irwin

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dean Irwin of Radcliffe has just received the honorary degree of LL.D. "in absentia" from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. Seldom has such a degree been awarded from St. Andrews, the candidate usually being compelled to receive his degree in person. It is noteworthy that Dr. Benjamin Franklin, from whom Miss Irwin is directly descended, received a similar degree from St. Andrews among the first honors that were bestowed upon him. The hood and diploma will be sent to this country by a special representative, who will attend the Franklin bi-centenary to be held in Philadelphia from April 17 to April 20 inclusive. The Lord-rector, or honorary head of the University, will also be present at the bi-centenary, and will himself do the "capping" or conferring of degrees. Miss Irwin will officially receive her diploma from him.
