During the past week the work of the University crew squad has consisted of preliminary rowing in the tank at the University boathouse. The men have been rowing in various orders and particular attention has been paid by Coach Wray to their blade and slide work. Regular crews will probably commence rowing in definite orders very soon; and as soon as the weather permits the floats at the boathouse will be put out as a preliminary to rowing on the river. H. V. Amberg '08, D. A. Newhall '06 and S. W. Fish '08 have not reported yet for various reasons, but will probably commence work when the hockey and basketball seasons are over. There will be no rowing this afternoon, but work will be resumed again on Monday.
The 82 candidates for the Freshman crew have been divided into three squads and the work has been entirely systematized under the direction of G. Clark 3L. Ten crews have been rowing every afternoon, six in the tank, coached by Wray, and four on the machines under the supervision of Rice and Stephension.
The men have been provisionally graded in the squads, but no first or second crew will be chosen until after rowing on the river commences. The first cut will be made next Saturday. There will be no work today, but the men will report as usual Monday afternoon.
