B. A. A. INDOOR MEET

In the seventeenth annual indoor handicap meet of the Boston Athletic Association held on Saturday night in Mechanics Hall, Harvard was defeated by Yale in both the University and Freshman relay races.

In the University race of approximately two miles Yale had the pole. Cates of Yale led by about two yards for the first two laps when he was passed by Young of Harvard, who gradually increased his lead and finished his relay about 10 yards ahead. In the second relay L'Engle of Yale made up the distance and took the lead in the middle of the fourth lap, but Miller of Harvard passed him in the last half lap and won by a yard. For two laps in the next relay Minot of Harvard maintained this lead but was passed by Tilson in the middle of the fifth lap. Minot weakened perceptibly and Tilson finally finished about 50 yards ahead. In the last relay Dives gained on Parsons of Yale and finished about 25 yards behind. The time was 7 minutes and 17 seconds.

The Freshman race with Yale of approximately one mile, was very close for the first two relays with Harvard slightly in the lead, but Yale took the lead at the beginning of the third relay. From this point Yale gained gradually and won by about 20 yards in 3 minutes and 15 seconds.

The upper class relay race was very close between the Juniors and Sophomores. For 1907, Doyle, who had the pole led for the first relay and finished about ten yards ahead. Van Brunt, who ran second for the Sophomores, passed Dick '07 in the second lap and finished about 10 yards ahead of him. In the third relay the Juniors again took the lead. Brinsmade '07 ran a strong race and passed Becker '08 on the last turn, winning by about two yards. Dana, who ran this relay for the Seniors, made up about 15 yards but was 20 yards behind at the finish. The last relay was very close between Macdonald '08 and Lockwood '07, but the latter maintained his lead and won by about two yards. The time was 3 minutes, 17 2-5 seconds.

In the individual events O. F. Rogers '08, and W. D. Thompson '07, won their heats in the forty-five yard handicap but both were unplaced in the semi-finals. In the invitation scratch 45-yard dash F. J. W. Ford 3L. won his heat but was defeated in the semi-finals. In the 45-yard high hurdles, W. M. Rand '09 and H. Taylor '07 won their heats but failed to get a place in the semi-finals. In the quarter-mile W. M. Hurd 1L. and F. A. Jenks '07 won third places in their heats but were not placed in the final heat.

The high jump was won by R. P. Kernan 2L., who had 1 in. handicap, with an actual jump of 6 feet 5-8 inch; and L. W. Bangs '08 won second place in the shot put with a put of 42 feet 6 inches, including his handicap of 5 feet 4 inches.
