Swimming Plans for the Year

The candidates for the University swimming, diving, and water polo teams will be called out for the first practice on Monday, December 10. A tank has not yet been decided upon, but it is expected that one of the larger tanks will be secured. Practice will be held regularly three times a week, either in the afternoon or in the evening.

On Wednesday, January 9, trials will be held for the class relay teams which will compete in the class swimming races on Friday, January 11. There will be six men on each relay team, each man swimming four lengths of the tank. Cups will be given to the members of the winning team. On the same date there will be a diving exhibition, and a water polo game between the first and second teams. A University squad will be selected from the men who show the most promise in this meet.

No definite schedule has yet been arranged, but it is expected that a series of intercollegiate swimming meets will be held during January, February, and March, in which each team will compete with every other team.

A coach has not yet been chosen, but it is probable that some one of last year's team will be appointed. The prospects for a strong team this year are exceptionally good, as the following members of last year's team have returned to College: F. P. Allen '09, D. B. Hill '08, L. Howe '07, W. Pierce '07, J. V. Quinlan '07, G. C. Welch '07, T. Withington '09, O. A. Wyman '08.

The officers of the University Swimming Association are as follows: President, R. W. Fernald '07; manager, E. Dana '08; captain of the swimming team, J. V. Quinlan '07; captain of the water polo team, G. C. Welch '07.
