The secret football practice yesterday afternoon was again very light, although all the members of the University team squad were on the field. At first Burr, Osborne, and Parker tried kicking goals from the field with good success; and Newhall and Kennard made some excellent attempts for goals from drop kicks. For about 15 minutes the backs and ends had punting practice--Foster, Newhall, Burr, and Lincoln dong the kicking. Burr's punts were excellent and should be of great service to the team on Saturday. In order to make the men start together there was a long signal drill by the first two elevens. Later the University team lined up against the second team for defensive work on kicks and forward passes, but there was no scrimmage. In the signal practice the plays were run off smoothly and the work was snappy. In the defensive work the men showed the effects of past practice in preventing the successful use of the forward pass and the onside kick by opponents. Kersburg was on the field but did not take any part in the practice. Captain Foster played left halfback both in the signal practice and in the defensive work.
The line-up for signal practice and defensive work follows: Squad Leaves Tomorrow Morning. The following men will go to New Haven tomorrow with the University football squad: Apollonio, Bird, Brock, Burr, Foster, Fraser, Gilder, Gilmore, Gray, Hall, Hoar, Inches, Kennard, Kersburg, Lincoln, Lockwood, Macdonald, Mason, Newhall, Nourse, Orr, Osborne, Parker, Peirce, Starr, Warren, and Wendell. They will report for breakfast at the Union tomorrow morning at 7.30 o'clock, with their dress suit cases packed. The squad will leave the Square at 8 o'clock on a special electric car. All members of the second squad must get railroad tickets and side-line badges from assistant manager Dutcher this afternoon.
