FIRST YALE DEBATE TRIAL

The first trial to choose the team that will represent the University in the annual debate with Yale this fall will be held in Dane Hall this evening at 7 o'clock.

Students in all departments of the University are eligible to try for the team. Each speaker at the trial tonight will be allowed five minutes to argue either the affirmative or negative of the subject for the debate: "Resolved, That further restriction of immigration is undesirable. By 'further restriction' is meant the application of additional tests with the object of diminishing materially the number of immigrants. But the nature and practicability of such tests are not to be discussed."

On the basis of these speeches, from twelve to sixteen men will be retained for the second and third trials, which will be held on Friday and Tuesday, respectively. The Coolidge Prize of $100 will be awarded immediately after the third trial to the undergraduate, who has, in the opinion of the judges, done the most effective work in all three trials. The judges tonight will be S. Curtis 2G., assistant in English, A. A. Ballantine '04, and E. M. Rabenold 3L.

All men who desire to try for the team should send their names to M. C. Leckner '07, Waverley 23, before 2 o'clock, when the order of speaking will be posted in Dane Hall. For the benefit of candidates for the team, all books of reference on the question have been placed on the shelves of the Reading Room in Dane Hall, which will be open from 9 A. M. to 5.30 P. M. and from 7.30 P. M. to 10 P. M. every day during the trials. The periodicals that contain articles on the subject have been reserved in the Gore Hall Reading Room.

All the trials for the team will be open to the public.
