The Freshman football team was defeated by Groton on Saturday afternoon at Groton by the score of 6 to 0. J. D. Nichols, '06, who was substitute left halfback on last year's University team, and is now a member of the Groton faculty, played right halfback for Groton.
Groton used the forward pass during the first half with great success, each play netting from 15 to 30 yards. The Groton line was strong and Nichols was unusually fast in the backfield. Fish punted well for the Freshmen and the work of the team as a whole was good.
Groton made the only score of the game by blocking Fish's punt on the 15-yard line. Nichols getting the ball and carrying it over the line for a touchdown. Nichols kicked the goal. The Freshmen had one chance to score but were penalized for holding within 15 yards of Groton's goal. The Freshman lineup: Houston, l.e.; Fish, l.l.; Hall, l.g.; Bowers, Estabrook, c.; Marvin, r.g.; Macleod, Forster, r.t.; G. Browne, r.e.; Page, q.b.; Gregory, Metcalfe, r.h.; Whittemore, Burrage, l.h.; Roffstar, Jordan, Whittemore, f.h.
