The Freshman football team was defeated by the Phillips Exeter Academy at Exeter on Saturday by a score of 20 to 0, in a well contested game.
The Freshmen played with spirit, but were weak in blocking end runs. Although not consistent on the offense they did good individual work. In the first half the line played high and the passing was poor. Severance punted well. Although the Exeter team was the heavier of the two, it lacked snap and failed to gain inside the tackles.
After the first touchdown, which was made by short rushes, the Freshmen received the kick-off, but were obliged to punt. Exeter caught the punt and ran 50 yards for the second touchdown. The third touchdown was the result of a trick play, which netted 70 yards. In the second half Exeter made the last score by short rushes. None of the goals were kicked.
The line-up: Score--Harvard 1909, 0; Exeter, 20. Touchdowns--Hart, Bergin, Weitzel, M. Cooney. Umpire--Alder. Time--15-minute halves.
