NINE DEFEATED WILLIAMS

In a Slow Game Saturday, by the Score of 6 to 2.

The University nine won from Williams on Saturday in a slow and uninteresting game by the score of 6 to 2.

The team made two earned runs, seven hits, and an error which allowed a Williams man to circle the bases and score. Seven Harvard men struck out and eight were left on bases, three at second and one at third. Clarkson, who was in the box for the first time since the southern trip, pitched his usual brilliant game and allowed only one hit and two bases on balls, striking out eleven men. Stephenson, behind the bat, made two perfect throws to second, and dropped the ball on the third strike twice, both times recovering in time to put the man out at first. The Williams team made eight errors, to which, either directly or indirectly, four of Harvard's runs were due.

The scoring began in the first inning, when Stephenson and Carr each brought in a run. In the third, Clarkson made a two-base hit and scored on Matthews' single to left field. No more runs were made until the seventh, when, with two men on bases, Randall made a single into right field. The fielder failed to stop the ball, and let in all three men. Williams scored in the eighth, when Holmes hit to Carr, who threw the ball high over Randall's head and thus allowed Holmes to reach the plate; and again in the ninth when McCarty stole home from third.
