Freshmen Defeated Milton.

The Freshman nine defeated Milton Academy yesterday afternoon, at Milton, in a slow game by a score of 22 to 3. During the first five innings the game was well contested, but in the sixth, Pierce, the Milton pitcher, lost control of the ball, and allowed the Freshmen to score fifteen runs. Warren, who replaced him, pitched more effectively, but was unsteady in the ninth inning, when seven runs were made against him.

The playing of the Freshmen was an improvement over that in the game with the Second nine, but was marred by frequent failures to take advantage of Milton's weakness, and an inability to bunch hits when necessary. Their base-running was poor and showed little headwork, and their fielding was erratic. Brennan pitched fairly well, but weakened at times. His wild pitch in the ninth inning allowed Apthrop to score for Milton. Tweed played an excellent game at catch, and threw to second base accurately.
