Several changes have been made in the orders of the University crews. Duffy has been back at 7 in the first boat since Saturday, thus displacing Bowditch, who went to 7 in the second. Macomber was tried yesterday at stroke and Filley rowed at 6. Shuebruk and Smith have been moved to 4 and 2 respectively and Ober has gone to 2 in the second. The chief fault in the first crew was a slight hitch following the catch; otherwise the work was more spirited and satisfactory than it has been for several days.
The second crew beat the third by half a length in a trial race downstream over the mile and seven-eighths course yesterday. The third crew got away at the start and led by a little over a length at Harvard Bridge. Then the second raised its stroke and pulled up steadily until the finish. The time was 10 minutes, 22 seconds.
This afternoon the second and third crews will row another race to determine which of the two will be sent to Ithaca tomorrow to race the Cornell second on Cayuga Lake Saturday.
The race between the Freshmen and Worcester High School, scheduled for Saturday, has been cancelled.
Following are the orders of the University crews as they rowed yesterday:
First crew--Stroke, Macomber; 7, Duffy; 6, Filley; 5, Lawson; 4. Shuebruk; 3, Swaim; 2, Smith; bow, Dillingham; cox., Greene.
Second crew--Stroke, Brownell; 7, Bowditch; 6, Lindsley; 5, Montgomery; 4, Foster; 3, Gardiner; 2, Ober; bow, Flint; cox., Chase.
Third crew--Stroke, Shepard; 7, Johnson; 6, Pleasanton; 5, Meier; 4, Switzer; 3, Gill; 2, Richmond; bow, Durfee; cox., Montgomery.
