CRICKET WITH HAVERFORD

Today at Haverford.--Harvard's First Game in the Intercollegiate Series.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University cricket team will play its first game in the intercollegiate series with Haverford, today at Haverford. Tomorrow it will play the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, and on May 30 Cornell at Cambridge. The game will commence at 11 o'clock; at 1 o'clock there will be an intermission of an hour, after which it will be continued.

The Haverford team has practiced since the first of the years, and, has defeated many of the Country Clubs in and about Philadelphia. C. C. Morris, its captain, is considered one of the strongest batsmen in this country, and when in England, established the reputation of having made the most runs of any American cricketer on English soil. The team has already won its first match in the series, defeating Cornell last week in a game which showed that it was very strong at the bat, but less effective in bowling.

Though the University team has been greatly handicapped by bad weather, which prevented outdoor practice during the first of the season, it has shown steady improvement in the last two weeks, especially in fielding. Of the four games played thus far, only the first,--with Mohair Cricket Club, one of the strongest clubs in the Massachusetts league--was lost. Gummere and F. C. Taylor, the regular bowlers, are swift and usually reliable. Morris and W. N. Taylor, the change bowlers, have done some excellent work, and Trainer's wicket keeping has been notable.

The batting orders in today's game will be as follows:

Harvard -- Wyndham-Gittens, Barnes, F. C. Taylor, W. N. Taylor, Morris, Carter, Dougherty, Trainer, King, Gummere, Spiers.

Haverford--C. C. Morris, Godley, Pearson, Bonbright, H. H. Morris, Hopkins, Doughton, Priestman, Lowry, Pleasants, Pierce.
