The final race for the interclub class championship, between the Weld seniors. Newell Juniors and Weld sophomores will be rowed this afternoon at 5 o'clock up-stream over the regular mile and seven-eighths course from the Union Boat Club to Longwood Bridge. The class championship race, in which the three upperclass crews and the Law School crew will compete, will be rowed over the same course at 5.30 o'clock. It has been found impossible to postpone this race to allow the winner of the interclub class race to compete for the class championship, because on Thursday the tides will make the rowing in the basin impracticable and Friday is so near the vacation that bad weather on that day would cause indefinite postponement.
The outcome of the interclub race is difficult to predict, as the crews seem to be very evenly matched. All three crews have undergone changes, especially the Newell Juniors and Weld Sophomores, whose men have been frequently shifted about to fill vacancies in their respective class crews. Of the participants in the class championship race, the Seniors have probably the fastest crew. They have been together longer than any of the other crews, and have gone through their season without a change. The Juniors have been especially unfortunate in losing men on account of sickness. The positions of stroke and 3 have had to be refilled at practically the last moment, thus retarding the development of what might have been a very last crew. The Sophomores, also, have lost men from time to time. Their body work, however, is good and at times the crew has shown considerable speed. The Law School crew was not organized until after the other crews had been on the river for some time. The men are rowing the old stroke in fairly good form, and it seems probable that they will better the creditable showing made by last year's crew.
The positions of the crews in the interclub race will be determined by lot before the race. For the interclass championship race the Law School crew has been allotted the inside course by the Beacon street wall, the Seniors the next position, the Juniors the next, and the Sophomores the outside course.
For today's races the officials will be as follows: referee--J. J. Storrow '85; judges at the finish--G. Whitney '07 and W. F. Emerson '06; timekeepers--vail and Rice.
