Forty candidates for the University and class lacrosse teams began work on Holmes Field yesterday and were divided into class squads. On account of the late season and the Southern trip during the April recess, a University squad will be picked very soon. Changes in this squad, however, will be made from time to time as the men in the class squads show ability.
The class squads will continue to practice until after the class games, which will probably be played just before the April recess. Individual cups have been offered by the Harvard Lacrosse Club of New York City for the team winning the class games. After the class games the most promising candidates will be taken on the University squad.
The work at first will be uniform for all candidates, and will consist largely of practice in stick work and in catching and passing the ball. Coach Shea of Ottawa will arrive before the end of the week and will take charge of all the squads.
