At its meeting on Wednesday night the Athletic Committee granted permission to the University lacrosse management to secure the services of M. J. Shea to coach the University and Freshman lacrosse teams and those men wishing instruction in lacrosse.
Mr. Shea will come to the University on April 1. In the meantime every effort will be made to drill all players in the rudiments of stick work and passing and catching the ball so that the more advanced development of the team may be undertaken by Mr. Shea. An especial effort will be made this year to develop strong team-play.
Mr. Shea has had an extensive playing experience on Canadian lacrosse teams. He played on the University of Ottawa Junior team in 1892 when that team held the Junior championship of Canada and on the Ottawa Stars in 1893, this team being the Canadian intermediate champions for that year. Since that time he has been a member of the Ottawa Capitol team, the world's championship lacrosse team in 1895, 1896, and in 1897.
Following is the schedule of the University lacrosse team for this year, the games being played at Cambridge, except when otherwise specified.
April 9.--College of the City of New York.
April 16.--Johns Hopkins at Baltimore.
April 18.--Swarthmore at Swarthmore.
April 20.--Lehigh at South Bethlehem.
April 30.--University of Pennsylvania.
May 9.--Hobart.
