The class of 1903 has decided to present the Union with a presiding officer's chair to be placed in the Living Room, and designs have already been approved and accepted by the trustees.
The chair will be massive in its proportions, and of quartered oak stained to match the other furniture in the Living Room. The arms and legs are to be handsomely carved and finished with a touch of dull gold. Under the seat there will be decorations of scroll work, and on the seat itself a heavy tufted crimson cushion. The back of the chair will be high with ornamental carvings and embossed work; near the top the words "Ex Dono Class of 1903" are to be inscribed. Resting on the top of the back will be scroll work supporting the shield of the Union in colors.
The committee in charge of the arrangements, composed of P. B. Robinson, chairman, F. W. Peabody and L. T. Brown, has awarded the contract for making the chair to the A. F. Davenport Furnishing Company, Boston, who have made all the furniture for the Union. Work has already been commenced and the chair will be finished in time to be presented on Class Day.
