The University eleven will play its third game of the season with the University of Maine on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Last year Harvard defeated Maine in a disappointing game by the score of 6 to 0. Only three of Maine's last year's team will play in the game today and as the average weight of the players is only 168 pounds, Harvard should have little difficulty in running up a good score. In the two games already played this season the Maine team won from Brown, 6 to 0, and from the Maine Central Institute by a score of 23 to 0.
The probable line-up of the two teams follows: The practice of the University football squad yesterday afternoon was characterized by dash and aggressiveness, and the work as a whole was quite satisfactory. In the scrimmage the first team was kept on the offense for the greater part of the time and succeeded in making good gains through the second team. In the preliminary work, which was shorter than usual, J. Reynolds '07 and L. H. Leary '05, did some excellent, punting. The first eleven was strengthened in the scrimmage by the presence in the line-up once more of Montgomery, Squires, and Nichols. In the scrimmage the first and second elevens each scored two touchdowns. Sperry made the first for the University on a 5-yard line plunge, and Wendell secured the second on a 40-yard end run. R. W. P. Brown '98, who temporarily lined-up with the second, made its first touchdown on a fake kick. Securing the ball on a fumble on the 30-yard line, C. Meier made the other score. The line of the first eleven held remarkably well, so that the opposing team was not once able to gain its distance by straight rushing. The line-up: Captain Hurley will leave the Stillman Infirmary this morning and go back to the training table at noon. He is expected to take part in the practice early next week.
