"Ancient Greek University Life."

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences announces a series of five lectures by Dr. John W. H. Walden '88, on "Ancient Greek University Life," in Harvard 1, at 4.30 o'clock, on the following Mondays:

February 15--Introductory: Education in Greece before Alexander; the Macedonian period.

February 29--Historical survey of university education in Grecian lands during the first five centuries of the Christian era.

March 7--The professors: their appointment, pay, privileges, and position in society.

March 14--The professors (continued): their instruction and public displays.

March 21--The students: their manners and customs, hazing, initiation rites, corps, etc.

The last four of these lectures will contain readings from Philostratus, Eunapius, Libanius, and other authors of the period. They are designed as an introduction to the intellectual life of the first five centuries of the Christian era, and although intended primarily for students and teachers, will be open to the public.
