The University crew yesterday used for the first time, the new shell, built by Davy. The practice was devoted to perfecting a smooth recovery that does not check the boat between strokes. The crew rowed to Harvard Bridge and back without coaching. The second eight was divided into two four-oared crews which rowed in the following order:

Stroke, Dillingham; 3, Ayer; 2, Derby; bow, Hartwell; cox., Ivy.

Stroke, Foster; 3, Haycock; 2, Webster; bow, Ober; cox., Litchfield.

The crew will leave for New London on Friday. The launch "John Harvard," which will be used at New London by the coaches and in the race on June 25, was sent away yesterday.
