The University hockey team defeated Yale in the first game of the final series for the intercollegiate championship at the St. Nicholas Rink, New York, last evening by the score of 6 goals to 2. The game throughout was extremely rough, both sides being frequently penalized for rough play. In the first half Hitchcock sprained his kneep cap in attempting to trip Lovering. Ward was twice disqualified, as were Newhall and Rowland. In the first half Harvard scored four times and Yale twice, two of Harvard's goals being made while Ward was out of the game. The loss of Hitchcock weakened Yale greatly and enabled. Foster to shoot an easy goal which was quickly followed by another by Newhall. The play during the last fifteen minutes was especially rough.

The teams lined up as follows: HARVARD.  YALE. Macleod, Newhall, f.  f., Dilworth, Rowland Foster, f.  f., Potter Souther, f.  f., Oliver Lovering, f.  f., Marcus Clothier, c.p.  c.p., Hitchcock, Ostby Carr, p.  p., Ward Manning, g.  g., Stern

Score--Harvard, 6; Yale, 2. Goals--Foster 3, Clothier, Souther, Newhall, Potter. Dilworth. Referee--Howard Drakeley, Crescent Athletic Club. Time--20-minute halves.

The second, and, if Harvard wins, the final game, will be played at the St. Nicholas Rink tonight.
