GRADED CREW PROSPECTS.

Officials for the Race.-Orders of Weld and Newell Crews.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The race between the Weld and Newell graded crews will take place Friday afternoon, November 6, at 4 o'clock, over the regular mile and seven-eighths course, starting at the Longwood Bridge and finishing at the Union Boat Club. Wray and Vail will be timers for the race, and H. G. Dillingham '04 will be referee. N. Wigglesworth '05 and M. H. Ivy '04 will be judges at the finish.

There will be two sections in the races, with four crews in each section. The first will consist of the first and second crews of each club; the second of the third and fourth crews. The second section will start as soon after the first as possible. Drawings for positions in the race will probably be made today.

Individually the men on the first Weld are good oars, but owing to the small number of times they have rowed together the crew as a whole is not up to the standard of the first crew of last year. The blade work is fairly good, but the men do not seem to get any drive to their strokes. In addition to these faults the recovery is too slow and there is a tendency to rush the slides.

The first Newell crew has shown a marked improvement in its work this week. The blade work is good, and the men control their slides fairly well. They are, however, rather slow at the start and finish.

As in the case of the first Weld, the men on the second have a strong tendency to rush, their slides, and to be poor in their blade work. The second Newell has retrograded somewhat during the week, the recovery being unsteady and the blade work poor. Nevertheless, both second crews are well up to the average, and should make the first section race very close.

The third Newell has rowed together more than the third Weld and should have the best chance of winning in the second section. Both of the fourth crews are so undeveloped that it is impossible to criticize them fairly.

There will be no races between the Freshman crews this fall.

The orders in which the crews will probably row in the race are as follows:
