Bequests to the University.

It is reported that by the will of Mary Putnam Ropes of Salem, the University will receive a bequest of Boston and Maine railroad common stock to endow the Nathaniel Ropes Professorship of Political Economy. The surplus, if any, is to go to the Peabody Museum. A second bequest from the same source of one-half the interest of an annuity bend of the Massachusetts Hospital Life Insurance Company, is to establish the Nathaniel Ropes; Jr., fund, the purpose of which is not stated. At present it is impossible to estimate the value of these bequests.
