The University baseball squad has been improving slowly during the past week. The practice so far has been held almost entirely in the cage; but in preparation for the game with the University of Maine next Saturday, the team will probably start regular work on the diamond today.
The men show increased accuracy in fielding, but still have a tendency to rush their plays. Some advance has been made in batting, though there is much need of improvement in this department. The players are too apt to hit at bad balls and on the whole do not display good judgment.
The Freshman squad has been reduced to about twenty men. They are working well and have made fair progress, but they need much drilling. Their throwing is not very good as yet, and their hitting is weak. C. T. Lovering '02 and T. F. Murphy '04 have been appointed to coach the squad.
