Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
The arrangements for the international chess match have suddenly met with an unexpected difficulty by the absence of the usual outside offer of peculiary aid. In 1808 the Knickerbocker Athletic Club of New York furnished means for carrying on the match and in 1899 the Associated Press made the same offer. This year there has been no such offer and plans have been made to organize a Graduate Chess Association for the purpose of raising funds. The association will consist of from five to ten men from each American college competing; this will include Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Columbia. The association will have the general management of the international tournament and will decide on the city where it is to be played. The members of the association will be subject to annual dues and there will be an annual banquet at some city agreed upon.
The team that is to represent the American colleges has been chosen provisionally, and each man is expected to defend his place against any challenge in his own college. The team as chosen is as follows: Harvard, E. R. Perry '03, C. T. Rice '01; Columbia, Falk and Sewall; Princeton, Hunt; Yale, Sawin.
