LAST HARD PRACTICE.

Good Work of Wednesday Continued. Kendall Still Out of the Game.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The last hard practice before the Pennsylvania game was held yesterday afternoon, and to-day the work will be merely a light signal practice. The whole first eleven was in good condition and all played yesterday except Kendall who is still resting before the game on Saturday. He is not seriously hurt but his shoulder is still a little weak. Campbell and Ellis both went into the game against the second eleven, this being the first actual playing Ellis has done since he was hurt at West Point.

As in the game Wednesday, the offensive work gave great encouragement. The response to the signals was snappy and quick, the plays went off with great smoothness and the interference was reliable. In the twenty-five minute game with the second eleven the first team scored three touchdowns and kept the ball almost entirely in its possession. This good showing was due not only to the excellent offense, but also to the strong defensive work of the line, which has undergone a great change for the better since the Indian game. This strength was shown in stopping the guards-back formation of the second eleven, which was used very often during the game. The best individual work was the brilliant running of Sawin and Gierasch. Both did some clever and effective dodging and followed their interference carefully. Ellis did no plunging, but did some good punting for the first eleven. The work of the team taken altogether was satisfactory to the coaches.

The first touchdown was made three minutes after Mifflin's kick-off. Sawin broke through right tackle and, with the excellent interference of Campbell, ran sixty-five yards for a touchdown. Shortly after the next kick-off Stillman broke away from the line but was stopped by Baldwin. Alternate rushing by Gierasch and Devens rapidly advanced the ball and Stillman was finally pushed over for the touchdown. Campbell got the ball on the next kick-off and a number of short gains took the ball to the second team's five yard line, but here Devens fumbled. Mifflin tried to punt, but Lawrence blocked and Hallowell fell on the ball, scoring a touchdown. The remaining five minutes of the game were spent in defensive work against the guards-back formation.

The line-up: First Eleven.  Second Eleven. Hallowell, r.e.  l.e., Hawkins. J. Lawrence, R. Lawrence, r.t.  l.t., McGrew. Barnard, Riggs, r.g.  l.g., Carroll, Rainsford.
