The opening exercises of Radcliffe college were held yesterday morning in Fay House. Miss Irwin welcomed the new students, and briefly mapped out the work for the year. The registration of the Freshman class was very large and promises to exceed all previous figures. The scholarships for 1899-1900 have not yet been awarded. The alumni have founded a new Scholarship called the Harvard Annex scholarship, which pays the tuition fee of one student. Miss Elizabeth Wright has succeeded Miss Wallace as director of the new gymnasium. The appearance of the college grounds has been greatly improved by tearing down the small houses numbers 5 and 7 Appian Way.
