The Lawrence estate on Brattle street, which was purchased last year with money raised under the direction of President Eliot, has been placed in charge of the State and is being converted into a public park. The land which adjoins it on the south has also been bought and has been added to what will eventually be known as the Lowell Memorial Park. As yet, little work has been done on the grounds except to clear off dead trees and to grade down slight elevations. Under the state park commissioners, however, the work of improving and enclosing the land will be hastened and it is expected that the new park will be opened next spring.
