Marvin Wins Tennis Championship.

E. R. Marvin 1L successfully defended his title of University tennis champion yesterday afternoon by defeating H. Ward '00, in four sets by the score of 6-8, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. This is the fourth year Marvin has held the championship in singles, and last year he defeated Ward who was then challenger in the same number of sets as in yesterday's match.

The play was fast and fairly accurate. Ward took the net as usual and won the first set by sharp volleying and clever placing. In the succeeding sets, Marvin steadied down and from the base line passed Ward frequently. His back-hand stroke was very speedy and his low ground-strokes were effective against Ward's net game.

In the doubles, Rockwell and Bidwell defeated Bingham and Roche, 7-5, 6-4, in a match in which Bidwell was the only man to play a steady game. Bingham and Roche, who were clearly outclassed, made a close fight for the match by playing at Rockwell. The finals in doubles will probably be played next week.
