A committee of the English Department consisting of Professors Kittredge, Briggs and Wendell, Mr. Gardiner, E. H. Wells '97, and A. H. Parker '97, which has been appointed to decide upon a memorial to Professor Child, has decided that the memorial shall take the form of a library for the English Department. This library will be called the Child Memorial Library and will be added to the present library of the English Department in Sever 2.
The committee has been receiving subscriptions of money and books for some time through its treasurer, Mr. Gardiner. Over $9000 has been received and a number of volumes. The committee wishes all the subscriptions to be strictly fifts and any sums or volumes will be welcome. Several books from Professor Chil's own library have been given to the department by his family. The funds received will be turned over to the Corporation and only the interest will be used for the purchase of books so that the library will be enlarged from year to year. Each volume will have a special book-plate.
The present library of the English Department numbers 700 volumes. During his life Professor Child took a deep interest in it and gave it many books. The contemplated library is what he wished to see established. All who wish to contribute may send contributions to Mr. Gardiner, 18 Grays.
