Yesterday afternoon the candidates for the Ninety-seven football team went through the usual preliminary practice. Only about a dozen men showed up, and more are urged to come out immediately. The men were coached on dropping on the ball and getting down the field on kicks, and after a short practice at breaking through the players were taken to see the 'Varsity game.
C. Manning, captain of Ninety-eight football team, made his first call for candidates yesterday. Seventeen men answered, among whom, however, J. Flint was the only old player. The men were all light, and unless more heavy men turn out, their chances of winning will not be good.
Ninety-nine has plenty of material, since thirty-one men showed up yesterday, and others are expected later. J. W. Farley (captain) put them through the usual routine of light work, after which they went to watch the 'Varsity game.
The Freshman candidates are still divided into six squads of about twelve men each, all of whom seem to be raw material, in need of a great deal of coachins. More heavy men is at present their chief need, but this may be remedied later by men coming back from the 'Varsity.
