CLASS GAME.

Yesterday the Freshmen defeated the Sophomores in an exciting game by the score of four to three. The victory gives Ninety-nine the series against Ninety-eight, and they will now play the winner of the Ninety-six-Ninety-seven series, for the class championship. There was a long dispute before the game as Ninety-eight wished to play Hayes and Holt of the College Nine, and Cozzens who has been pitching with the 'Varsity all the spring. Thompson at first refused to play the game, but at length agreed to play under protest, but as Ninety-nine won, the protest will make no difference.

The three new men strengthened Ninety-eight immensely, and Cozzens especially was the cause of Ninety-nine's small score. Only three safe hits were made off him and he struck out seven men, and also fielded his position well.

Fitz pitched a splendid game for Ninety-nine. He struck out twelve men, and held the Sophomores down to six hits, two of which would have been easy outs but for the darkness. He also had perfect control of the ball and was very cool at critical times.

The fielding was fairly good on both sides, though each team made some inexcusable errors. Davis and Mills played the best game for Ninety-nine, and A. Davis and Foster did well for Ninety-eight. Lynch led both teams at the bat, making three hits for four times at bat, and these were the only hits that Ninety-nine made.

Ninety-nine went to the bat first: Thompson struck out, but Lynch hit safely, took second and third on Foster's fumble and scored on Davis' sacrifice. Mills went out at first base. Ninety-nine scored again in the second, when Galbraith got his base on balls and came in on two passed balls and a wild pitch. Neither side scored again till the fifth, when Ninety-nine made two runs and Ninety-eight one. Fitz got to first on an error by Holt, took second on a passed ball and came in on Lynch's hit. Lynch also scored, getting around on a stolen base and two wild pitches. For Ninety-eight, Holt hit safely, stole second and third, and came in on Abbott's hit.

Ninety-eight made two more runs in the eighth inning. Abbott flied out to Mills, but on the next play Mills threw wild and Davis was safe. He stole second and came in on Slade's two-bagger. Goodridge's hit brought Slade in and Cozzens struck out, ending the inning. Both the hits in this inning were due to the darkness as the men could not see the ball and accordingly the umpire called the game.
