At a meeting of the Harvard Memorial Society held yesterday afternoon the following men from '97 were elected members:
F. A. Burlingame, H. G. Gray,
J. H. Choate, Jr., F. H. Kinnicutt,
J. Dean, H. Schurz,
H. Endicott, Jr., E. H. Wells,
W. L. Garrison, Jr., B. Winthrop.
These members will at once succeed the '96 members in control of all the affairs of the society.
It will be remembered that the Memorial Society was founded last spring with the purpose of fostering interest in the historical associations and traditions of Harvard. Besides the undergraduate members, the society includes a large number of distinguished graduates, some of whom are resident at the University. Dr. Justin Winsor is the president, and Professor A. B. Hart is vice-president.
A primary object of the society was to arrange for courses of lectures by well qualified men on subjects connected with the history of Harvard and on famous graduates. In accordance with this purpose the present course of lectures which has proved so successful was arranged. Another object is to mark properly all objects of historic interest connected with the University.
