The semi-finals and finish of the Newton indoor tennis tournament for the indoor championship of the United States were played Saturday afternoon and evening, and were the occasion of much good tennis. Both matches in the semifinals were well contested, E. Sheafe beating E. R. Marvin '99, 2-6, 6-5, 6-1, and R. C. Thomas '96, defeating A. Codman '96, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. In the finals between Sheafe and Thomas, at one time it looked as if Sheafe would win in the three straight sets, but Thomas braced up in the third and fourth sets and won them handily. The fifth set was a hard struggle, both men playing evenly and well, the experience and steadiness of Sheafe winning for him, however, the sets and match. Score, 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, 7-5.
