The matches to decide Harvard's third representative in singles at New Haven this week were finished on Saturday and resulted in a victory for H. Foster '98. In the morning Foster defeated J. D. Forbes '99 in a well played three set match. Forbes had the score 4-2 in his favor in the third set, but Foster finally won the set and match 6-4. W. M. Scudder '99 also defeated E. R. Marvin '99 in the morning after a long and rather poorly played match. In the afternoon Foster defeated Scudder very easily, both men being too tired to play well.
In the coubles W. D. Whitman '99, and J. D. Forbes '99, defeated D. Davis '00, and R. McKittrick '99, and R. H. Carleton '98, and H. Foster '98, defeated H. J. Holt '98, and E. R. Marvin '99. Late in the afternoon Whitman and Forbes, and Foster and Carleton met to decide who should go to the Intercollegiate in the doubles, and they stopped on account of darkness at one set all. Foster and Carleton won the first set and had a lead of 5-2 in the second, but lost it by erratic playing. The third set in the doubles will be played this morning at ten o'clock. The summaries are as follows: W. M. Scudder '99, beat E. R. Marvin '99, 11-9, 6-4; H. Foster '98, beat J. D. Forbes '99, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4; H. Foster '98, beat W. M. Scudder '99, 6-4, 6-1.
Doubles.- M. D. Whitman '99 and J. D. Forbes '99 beat D. Davis '00 and R. McKittrick '99, 7-5, 6-4; R. H. Carleton '98 and H. Foster '98 beat H. J. Holt '98 and E. R. Marvin '99, 6-4, 6-3; Whitman and Forbes vs. Carleton and Foster, unfinished.
