Mrs. Ward has long since been accorded an exhalted position in American literature, and she has merited it in every way. Her latest book, "A Singular Life," is said to be the best American novel since the days of "Uncle Tom's Cabin." It is already in its fifteenth edition and the demand for it is still very great.
