The second annual tournament for the championship of the State of Massachusetts will be held on Saturday, June 15, and Monday, June 17, on the grounds of the Longwood Cricket Club, at Longwood, Boston.
In accordance with the plan of the U. S. N. L. T. A., successful state championship tournaments were held last year in several states, and the practice will be still more widely adopted this year. In view of its success last year, the Massachusetts tournament will doubtless be a fixture.
Mr. F. H. Hovey, the present holder of the championship, has signified his intention of defending his title against the winner of the tournament.
The tournament will be played on seven dirt courts. Prizes will be awarded the winner of the tournament and the winner of the championship match.
Play will begin Saturday, June 15, at 1 p. m., and will be continued Monday, June 17 (Bunker Hill Day), at 10 a. m. All matches except the challenge match will be best two in three sets, the third only being advantage. The challenge match will be best three in five advantage sets.
Entries will be received up to 4 p. m. Friday, June 14 by P. E. Presbrey, secretary, Longwood Cricket Club, P. O. Box 2337, Boston, Mass., to whom, also, all communications in regard to the tournament should be addressed.
An entrance fee of $1 should accompany each entry.
Referee, W. D. Orcutt.
